First, you need to build the chair frame of your choosing. As you can see by the picture above, we used some leftover 4x4 landscape timbers for the back legs, and the rest of the chair was built from scrap lumber as well. Brother Lucian loves to make the best of his tools, and that is evident in the scroll saw work for the back of the chair. In figure one, you can see that an old drill was mounted in the bottom underneath the seat of the chair. We used a dimmer switch to regulate the speed of the drill so the body doesn't look like a piston.
Brother Lucian then cut out a round piece of wood to decrease the rpm ratio somewhat and mounted a piece of PVC pipe to the wooden circle (Figure 2). The PVC comes up through the seat of the chair. This is where the victim's body will be attached. Make certain that you cut a large enough hole for the PVC pipe (Figure 3) as it will need enough room to operate properly.
We had some fancy scrolled wood pieces left over from another project and added them to the chair. The "bolts" are wooden balls cut in half. After the chair was assembled, he spray painted it with gray latex paint we found in the "oops" paint section of Home Depot. (Figure 4)
Brother Lucian was very careful to choose the right kind of leather straps for the arms and feet. We purchased several wide leather belts at K-Mart that met his approval and he fastened small padlocks to close each strap.
The head piece is your standard aluminum light shade from the hardware store that is fastened to the back of the chair with flexible conduit.
Brother Lu wanted to add some mystique to the chair so he acquired two round plasma lights from Spencers and mounted them on each chair back. (Figures 5 & 6) If you choose to use lights like these, you want to be certain they are fastened securly as the chair does produce a violent shaking motion and you don't want to be embarassed by having the lights fly off the chair during an execution.
In figure 7 you can see that Brother Lucian built a switch to govern the electric chair. This is pretty simple. Its wired to the drill in the chair.A fog machine is hooked up to another piece of PVC with holes drilled throughout to make him smoke. The PVC is mounted to the chair behind the dummy (do not use the same PVC pipe that's connected to the drill). When you flip the switch the whole thing shakes and bakes! |
