Blood Fountain
Here is a great little prop I made for around $35. I purchased a hanging planter at Michael's end-of-the-season garden stuff sale. It has a light styrofoam flower pot in the bottom that is waterproof. I also found a small fountain pump at K-Mart on sale for about $18. Since I wanted more of a "drip" instead of a fountain stream, Brother Lucian fitted the fountain tubing with a regulator we got at Home Depot. This will regulate the water flow from the pump so we don't wind up with "blood" all over our guests (and everywhere else we don't want it). The Skelly came from Party City for about $12 and I promptly dismantled it by removing the screws and rings that were in all the joints. We drilled a hole in the bottom of his scull behind the jaw area just large enough for the fountain tubing to fit through. We stopped drilling about halfway toward his teeth and inserted the tubing for the pump. Then we took a smaller sized drill bit and drilled four holes through the front of his teeth until they met the larger hole for the tubing. I wanted the "blood" to drip down his jaw and over the front of his ribcage and land in the basin below so its important not to drill the holes in the teeth very large. Again, the regulator will help control the flow of the water - uh, I mean "blood". The tubing inserted in the jaw was sealed with caulking, and the joints of the skelly were hot-glued into position. The water is tainted with bottled red "blood".
