Manor Sign
Meet Vincent. He is our Scarymount Manor sign. He welcomes visitors to our haunt and reminds them of the consequences if they disobey the house rules. A Dougglas Fir talking Christmas Tree brings Vincent to life. This was a fun project to do dispite the challenges. The whole thing is quite delicate and care must be taken to avoid damaging the electronics in the prop. Once it is built, you cannot access the inner workings without tearing the whole thing apart. This was my first introduction to using Crayola Model Magic modeling clay. Its not really "clay"; its more like putty. It air dries to the consistancy of foam and is very light making it ideal to use for pop-up props and the like. A great product for constructing all sorts of things. (Check out FCG Hands.) Vincent's face is made of Model Magic. I also covered the Douggie mouth piece with a lip. . . as I said it dries light-weight and the Douggie's electronics does not labor lifting the lip up and down. The whole thing was given a couple of coats of fleckstone paint.

Here is a shot of the back of the sign. The electronics are very delicate.
The face was constructed using some pieces of foam board glued in place. Sorry, but I neglected to take pictures of that stage. Then the face was built over the foam pieces using the Model Magic. Make sure you leave enough room for the eyes - you must be careful not to get the clay too close to the eyes or when it dries, they won't work properly. The Model Magic may shrink a little as it dries.
